Our commitment to the complexities of specialty care has led us to be among the first in the state to offer many new ENT developments, including intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for head and neck cancer, minimally invasive endoscopic thyroidectomies, reconstruction of head and neck cancer defects with microvascular free flaps, transoral robotic surgery (TORS), sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) as an alternative to allergy shots, and a comprehensive range of state-of- the-art treatments for snoring and sleep apnea.

CENTA' s Head & Neck Surgery Clinic is renowned and unique in that it offers a multi- disciplinary approach, encompassing a team of highly trained health care providers that meets weekly to develop individual patient treatment plans. This approach allows each patient to be examined by physicians from every specialty involved in treatment in one location, at a single appointment.

CENTA is also the first practice in Indiana to offer daVinci® Robotic Head and Neck Surgery and da Vinci® Robotic Thyroid Surgery. This exciting new surgical technique is an alternative to traditional open surgery and enables the surgeon to approach the thyroid from the armpit and allows for removal of the thyroid without a neck incision.

We' re dedicated to offering cutting-edge ENT services in a wide range of specialties and sub- specialties, providing a single resource for all our patients' ENT needs.

Lump or Mass in the Neck

Head and neck anatomy is the most complex anatomy in the body—and among the most vital. The structures in this part of the body control your ability to chew, swallow, breathe, smell, speak, see, and hear. Your face is the most visible part of your body. All of the nerves and blood vessels that go to and from the brain and the rest of the body travel through the neck.

There are few things more terrifying than being told that you may have cancer. And when this cancer arises within the head and neck, the potential effects on quality of life can be particularly worrisome. The effect it might have on eating, speaking, and breathing. Pain. The effect it can have on your appearance. What it might do to your loved ones. The prospect of dying. Because of this, some researchers have stated that head and neck cancer can be more emotionally traumatic than any other type of cancer.

And so can the treatment. Some of these cancers are best treated with radiation by a radiation oncologist. Some in the operating room by a head and neck surgeon. Some with chemotherapy drugs by a medical oncologist. Some require an oral surgeon or a prosthodontist. Some of these cancers need a combination of these treatments, either together or sequentially. So where should you go to be evaluated and treated? Which is the best specialist, and how do you know if he is taking your best interests into account? And how can you be sure that one specialist will communicate with another – and how long might it take to see all of these specialists if their offices are in different locations?
